Tourism and Accommodations

  • Seasonal tourism is a major component in the Scituate economy with the significant influx of day trippers and boaters throughout the summer.
  • Beyond specialty retail, restaurants and recreational boating in Scituate Harbor, other tourismrelated opportunities exist but are lesser known. Local beaches, the North and South Rivers, Widows Walk Public Golf Course, historic sites (such as the Scituate Lighthouse and Lawson Tower), and town parks and trails are fantastic amenities for residents as well as visitors.
  • Opportunities to enhance the tourist experience include adding boat tours, fishing excursions, a dinghy dock and more support services for boaters; further expanding beach access to visitors (e.g. more day passes for hotel stays and non-resident use has been completed); increasing 23 promotion of recreational amenities (golf courses, biking, etc.); and offering kayak and bicycle rentals.
  • Scituate’s waterfront location and recreational amenities make it a popular wedding and tourist destination. With limited lodging options in Scituate and surrounding communities (only 29 rooms in Scituate), the Town can likely support additional lodging space such as a boutique hotel or a smaller national chain.
