Housing Opportunities

  • Previous housing studies have identified the need for additional rental options in Scituate and the need for more multifamily units. These should include affordable options for existing and future households at densities that would support more pedestrian-oriented village areas.
  • The local housing market could support higher density rental housing in North Scituate (if sewer can be extended) and Greenbush-Driftway, as well as additional housing in Scituate Harbor and possibly along the North and South Rivers. Greenbush-Driftway in particular holds the most potential for higher-density rental and ownership housing because there is more land suitable for larger-scale development or redevelopment that is close to Route 3A, the commuter rail station, and recreational amenities such as Widows Walk and the North River
