Water Turn-ons

The Town of Scituate Water Department will not be turning on new or summer water services until the emergency situation is under control with regards to the Coronavirus. The Water Department’s Charter is to provide water and fire protection to the Town of Scituate.  There are over 500 water services that are turned on through the spring that range from summer homes to new construction.  The Water Department is currently deploying reduced staff to provide protection for the Water Department employees and residents of the Town.  The reason for this is that the employees who make and distribute the water are licensed through the state and have very specialized jobs. A quarantine or exposure to the virus for Water Department Employees could limit water production. There is a back-up plan with other agencies and the state but in the current crisis all precautions are being taken.

The Water Department will track customers on a first come first serve basis. Please contact 781-545-8735. When in consultation with the Health Director it is determined to be a safe environment, this service will start up again. Please remember that only Town Employees can turn on a water service if it was shut down at the street.

Thank you.

Kevin Cafferty, Department of Public Works Director
