Water Infrastructure Update

Oceanside Drive: The new water line has been completed and is currently in service. There were 3,260 feet of pipe replaced and about 146 water services replaced.

Gannett Road: Water services are being relocated to the newer water line to deactivate the existing in service 1901 water line. As of today 14 services have been relocated and a total of 55 services will be relocated during this project.

Mann Lot Road: The temporary water main has been put into place along a portion of the road.  The line has been sampled for bacteria (waiting results). When the temporary water line is approved for use the contractor can start to connect homes. The main line water work will not start until the Mann Lot Water Tank is addressed.

Mann Lot Water Tank: The water tank was installed in 1938 and has a capacity of 1 Million Gallons. The gate valve that controls the water coming and going from the water tank was also installed in 1938 and is no longer reliable. As part of this project the gate valve will be replaced. This is required before the main line construction starts on Mann Lot Road. This work will be starting September 9, 2019. When this tank is taken off line there will be major changes to the system with regards to hydraulics. As a result residents should be prepared for Brown Water. This work will be ongoing for two days (the 9th and 10th). It will include taking the water tank offline during this time. The water treatment plant will run 24 hours during this operation to maintain fire flow and normal pressure in the system.

Water Flushing: The Town will start doing a UDF (uni-directional flushing) program when the tank work is completed.  The removal of the pre 1935 water lines will allow the water department to implement an aggressive flushing program this season to attack the sediment that causes brown water. Please watch the Town web site and pay attention to signs showing the flushing locations. As this work is going on there is a greater chance for brown water.  This will be on-going as water supplies last and as the weather cooperates. It is scheduled to go as late as possible safely.

Ice Pigging: The Town will start ice pigging in October.

Water Study: The study has started and is ongoing. Results of the study should be available by 1.15.20.
