Water Construction Update

Gannett Road: Water services are being relocated to the newer water line to deactivate the existing in service 1901 water line. As of today 18 services have been relocated and a total of 55 services will be relocated during this project.

Mann Lot Road: The main line water pipe replacement has started and the contractor has placed approximately 500 feet of new water pipe.  The contractor will be working on this for the next 6 to 7 work days. There is a total of 2,200 feet of line being replaced on Mann lot Road. When the contractor completes the main line work they will conduct pressure testing which should take two days unless any leaks are discovered.  When the pressure testing is completed the contract will then start disinfecting the pipe which could take up to an additional week. When this work is going on the road will be open for traffic and not much construction activity will be going on. The contractor will go back to Gannett Road to work on service relocations while the testing results are being analyzed. Once the lab has certified the results of the tests then the contract will start switching water services on to the new line on Mann Lot.

Mann Lot Water Tank: The water tank was installed in 1938 and has a capacity of 1 Million Gallons. The gate valve that controls the water coming and going from the water tank has been replaced. This work was done very successfully. The contractor and water department worked until 1:30Am last Monday night to complete this work. While the tank was offline the divers cleaned any sediment that was on the bottom of the water tank. This year there was about 1 inch which is common. Last year we removed almost 17.5 inches so this is an improvement system wide.

Water Flushing: The Town has started a UDF (uni-directional flushing) program now that the tank work is completed.  The removal of the pre 1935 water lines will allow the water department to implement an aggressive flushing program this season to attack the sediment that causes brown water. Please watch the Town web site and pay attention to signs showing the flushing locations. As this work is going on there is a greater chance for brown water.  This will be on-going as water supplies last and as the weather cooperates. It is scheduled to go as late as safely possible.

Ice Pigging: The Town will start ice pigging in October.

Water Study: The study has started and is ongoing. Results of the study should be available by 1.15.20.
