Scituate Emergency Management Agency Update

Tropical Storm Elsa

As we anticipate another round of thunderstorms this afternoon and we look ahead to Friday as Tropical Storm Elsa is forecast to transit over Massachusetts bringing strong southeast (SE) winds and bands of heavy rain. At this time the tropical storm is forecast to have maximum sustained winds of 25-35mph with gusts potential to 55 mph in our area. The closest passage and most significant impacts are forecast to be mid- morning Friday through the afternoon. This timeline and track could change so please stay informed.

Be aware that these tropical systems can bring isolated strong thunderstorms at any time during transit. Please secure your deck furniture, grills, & any other equipment you have outside your home that could become airborne.

You should be prepared for the potential of scattered power outages due to the gusty winds. If generators are needed, make sure you have good fuel & be sure to keep the exhaust away from your home, especially windows, to reduce the potential for carbon monoxide issues. We don’t expect any coastal flooding with the SE winds but may experience strong rip currents and erosion at our beaches.

Please stay informed as any shift to the with the storm track could increase the impacts for our area. You can find supporting information on the Scituate Emergency Management link on the Town website scituatema.gov.
