SCITUATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

Storm Update 5: 2/13/2024 5:15 PM

According to the National Weather Service, Scituate can anticipate overcast skies gradually yielding to clearer conditions tonight. The temperature is expected to decrease to around 29°F, accompanied by a west wind blowing between 9 to 17 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 29 mph.

With temperatures dropping below freezing, please exercise additional caution while traveling on the roads, especially due to the potential presence of black ice. While the Town of Scituate DPW has been actively treating our roadways since yesterday, we strongly recommend reducing your driving speed and increasing your following distance.

The astronomical tides will remain above 10 feet 7 inches until Wednesday morning, with high tide at 2:14 AM. Minor to moderate flooding is anticipated in low-lying areas such as Cole Parkway, Front Street, Edward Foster Road, Cedar Point, and Central Ave in Humarock. Coastal roads may experience splashover due to these conditions.

Wednesday morning is expected to bring clouds that will give way to sunshine by afternoon, with temperatures reaching around 33°F. Northwest winds are anticipated to increase to 19-24 mph, gusting up to 36 mph later in the day.

The Recreation Department’s evening programs will proceed as scheduled this evening.

The Food Pantry has extended its drive-up client hours on Thursday, 2/15/24, from 2 PM to 5:15 PM.

The Town of Scituate advises residents to:

  • Avoid driving through flooded areas, as saltwater or debris hidden under the water can damage vehicles, and vehicle wakes can pose risks to neighboring properties.
  •  Avoid approaching any fallen power lines and downed trees.
  •  Please avoid driving around the sawhorses, which've been set up for safety reasons.
  •  Operate generators outdoors and away from living spaces.
  •  Please refrain from parking on Cole Parkway and the Town Pier through Wednesday afternoon.
  •  Check in on your elderly or disabled neighbors. Extend a helping hand by ensuring they are safe and comfortable and have access to any assistance they might need.
