SCITUATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

Storm Update 4: 2/13/2024 10:45 AM

The latest National Weather Service update indicates that Scituate is expected to be impacted by a storm starting Tuesday morning and lasting through Wednesday afternoon, potentially intensifying into a Nor'easter, which may result in significant coastal effects that will bring:

  • The National Weather Service predicts rain transitioning to snow around 10 AM today. Snowfall could vary in intensity, possibly accumulating 3 to 6 inches throughout the afternoon and evening. Expect windy weather, with a north wind blowing at 25 to 33 mph, gusting up to 50 mph.
  • The astronomical tides will stay above 10 feet 6 inches until Wednesday morning. High tide occurs at 1:47 PM this afternoon and again at 2:14 AM on Wednesday. With powerful northeast winds contributing, we predict minor to moderate flooding in low-lying areas such as Cole Parkway, Front Street, Edward Foster Road, Cedar Point, and Central Ave in Humarock. Coastal roads could experience splashover due to these conditions.
  • High wind gusts are expected through the Wednesday morning commute, contingent on the storm's trajectory. These winds could cause downed power lines and result in power outages.

  • Prepare for the storm by ensuring your generator has sufficient gas and is in optimal working condition. Operate generators outdoors and away from living spaces.
  • Charge your electronic devices in advance to ensure they remain powered and ready for use during the storm.
  • Please avoid approaching any fallen power lines and downed trees.
  • Please check in on your elderly or disabled neighbors. Extend a helping hand by ensuring they are safe and comfortable and have access to any assistance they might need.
