SCITUATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

Storm Update 2: 2/12/2024 12 PM

As of the latest update, Scituate is expected to be impacted by a storm starting Tuesday early morning and lasting through Wednesday afternoon, potentially intensifying into a Nor'easter, which may result in significant coastal effects. The Town of Scituate is preparing for the following:

• On Tuesday morning, anticipate rain transitioning to heavy wet snow, becoming all snow after 11 AM. Snowfall could be heavy at times, with accumulations between 4 to 8 inches possible. Expect windy conditions, with a north wind of 25 to 33 mph, gusting as high as 40-50 mph.

• High wind gusts are anticipated from Monday night through the Wednesday morning commute, depending on the storm's path. These winds could lead to downed power lines and resulting power outages.

• Tides on Monday night and Tuesday into Wednesday are forecasted to exceed 10'7", with an 11' tide predicted for the overnight tide Monday/Tuesday. Given the combination of high astronomical tides and strong northeast winds, we anticipate minor to moderate flooding in low-lying areas, including Cole Parkway, Front Street, Edward Foster Road, Cedar Point, and Central Ave in Humarock. Coastal roads may also experience splashover.

Please refrain from parking on Cole Parkway and the Town Pier Tuesday morning into Wednesday afternoon.

Please avoid driving through flooded areas, as saltwater or debris hidden under the water can damage vehicles, and vehicle wakes can harm neighboring properties.

Prepare for the storm by ensuring your generator has sufficient gas and is in good working condition. Operate generators outdoors and away from living spaces.

Charge your electronic devices in advance to ensure they remain powered and ready for use during the storm.
