SCITUATE DESIGNATED AS “HOUSING CHOICE” COMMUNITY

The Town of Scituate has achieved designation as a Housing Choice Community by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (HLC).  The Housing Choice designation recognizes the efforts the Town has made to adopt best practices and zoning that supports affordable and transit-oriented housing development.  This designation allows the Town to take advantage of new financial resources, including exclusive access to the Housing Choice Community Grants, and preferential treatment for many state grant and capital funding programs.  “A very tight housing market has led to skyrocketing costs in Scituate.” said Town Administrator, Jim Boudreau.  “We need additional housing alternatives to accommodate the increasing population of seniors such as more handicapped accessibility.  We also need more affordable housing opportunities to attract young adults and families to maintain our workforce.”
