REAL ESTATE & PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX DUE DATE EXTENDED

From May 1, 2020 to June 1, 2020

If you pay your Q4 real estate/personal property taxes on or before the close of business on June 1, 2020 there will be no interest or penalties associated with it. If you wait until June 2, 2020 or later there will be an interest charge and potentially other charges. This does not apply to FY20 Q1 (due August 1, 2019), FY20 Q2 (due November 1, 2019) or FY20 Q3 (due February 1, 2020) or prior year bills.

You are encouraged to pay your bills timely to the extent that you can.

The extension of due dates for taxes is designed to provide taxpayer relief for those impacted by COVID19. It does apply to everyone and every business. Everyone who can pay their bills to the Town are encouraged to do so by the original due date or as close as possible to help the Town continue to provide necessary services in a safe manner and pay staff during this difficult time. Regardless, Town employees will continue to do their best to provide all services to all residents as best they can, given the available resources. Obviously, the more taxpayers who wait or don’t pay their bills the greater the impact on the Town’s resources and ability to provide services. The Town’s June 30th fiscal year end has not changed, and revenues received or not in one fiscal year have an impact on the finances for the following fiscal year.

PAYING REAL ESTATE TAX and PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX BILLS

How to pay: [NOTE: All avenues of payment continue to be checked daily during the COVID-19 crisis to ensure that taxpayers receive credit for payments on the appropriate date.]

  • Pay Online through the Town’s website using our vendor UNIPAY. Payments can be made up to 11:59pm on the due date and an electronic receipt is provided. Options are available to schedule your payment, enroll in automatic payments, and report on your payments for historical and income tax purposes. See the Town website for more details. www.scituatema.gov
  • Mail a check to our lockbox in Woburn via USPS. Use the pre-addressed envelopes that came with your bill. Be sure to include the remit slip so the processor knows what bill to apply the payment to. Payments are credited the day they arrive at the lockbox, not postmarked.
  • Mail a check to Town Hall along with the remit slip via USPS. Please note that postmarks are not accepted:  Tax Collector 600 Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Scituate MA 02066
  • Place payment in the mail slot in the main entrance to the Town Hall. This is available 24 hours a day. Payments need to be in the box before the last daily pickup to get credit for that day
  • Pay Online through your bank. Please be aware that this option generates a paper check which is mailed via USPS. You get credit for the payment on the day that it arrives (not the day you scheduled it or that it was postmarked). Since there is no remit slip, it is imperative that you have bill information printed on the check. If we can’t figure it out, we have no option other than to send the payment back to your bank. This is frustrating for us, but even more so for you. We do not recommend this option, but if you do use it please have the check mailed to the Tax Collector 600 Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Scituate MA 02066 because the folks working the PO Box in Woburn are not able to process checks without remit slips.

Receipts:

We recognize that some taxpayers want a physical receipt when paying their taxes. A cancelled check is considered your receipt. If this does not suffice for your purposes, we will provide a paper or electronic receipt upon request. Please provide a self-addressed envelope or an email address with your payment.
