POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS - 3/22/2024 - 11 AM

The National Weather Service has issued a warning for the Town of Scituate, projecting heavy rainfall of 2 to 3 inches, leading to potential flooding, particularly during Saturday, March 23, 2024, afternoon and night. Additionally, there is a forecast for wintry precipitation late tonight, Friday, March 22, 2024, possibly resulting in minor snow and/or ice accumulation.

Anticipated possibilities of low-lying areas prone to flooding include Cole Parkway, Front Street, Edward Foster Road, Cedar Point, and Central Ave in Humarock.

As temperatures approach freezing, exercising caution while driving is imperative, especially due to the potential presence of black ice. Although the Town of Scituate Department of Public Works will actively treat roadways, residents are strongly urged to reduce driving speed and increase following distances for added safety.

The Town of Scituate advises residents to:

  • Avoid driving through flooded areas. Saltwater or debris hidden under the water can damage vehicles, and vehicle wakes can pose risks to neighboring properties.
  • Refrain from parking on Cole Parkway and the Town Pier
  • Do not drive around the sawhorses, which've been set up for safety reasons.
  • Residents should inspect their sump pumps, check downspouts, and ensure that catch basins in the area are not blocked.

In case of emergencies, dial 911 or 781-545-1212 for non-emergencies. Power outages should be reported to National Grid at 1-800-465-1212 or Eversource (Humarock) at 1-800-688-6160.
