MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS

The Town of Scituate and the Veteran Services Department along with the Veterans Advisory Council extend an invitation to participate in our Annual Memorial Day Ceremonies to be held on Monday, May 31, 2021. All of the Town Veteran’s graves, Memorials, Memorial signs, and bridges have been flagged and red, white and blue wreaths have been adorned on them.

The Ceremonies will begin at 8 a.m. with the flotilla underway leaving from the Harbormaster’s Office for the throwing of wreath to honor those “lost at Sea”.

Then at approximately 9 a.m. the Rolling Thunder motorcycle club will proceed up 3A from the Greenbush rotary to the Scituate High School (SHS) Football Stadium escorted by the Scituate Police Department.

Starting at about 10 a.m. at the Scituate High School Football field, there will be a dedication of the Chair of Honor. Members of the Veterans Advisory Council, American Legion Post 144 rifle salute, Scituate Police and Fire Honor Guards, Town Officials, Rolling Thunder, Chaplin Eleanor Grossman, Gates and SHS Bands, soloist Lauren Flynn and members of the Scituate High School Football and Cheer teams will be on hand to dedicate this very special Chair.

The premise for the 'Chair of Honor' is to always have one empty seat as a reminder for the sacrifices made by those who served in the Armed Forces and are still missing.

It will forever remain empty as a powerful reminder of members of the military who were prisoners of war (POW) and those listed as missing in action (MIA).

There will be handicap parking and seating at the high school field. If you require assistance or have any questions concerning the parking, please do not hesitate to ask any uniformed police officer at the event. Public restrooms will be available. Please follow the State of MA COVID guidelines. https://www.mass.gov/news/baker-polito-administration-to-lift-covid-rest...
