FLOOD WATCH - March 28, 2024 - 9:30 AM

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the Town of Scituate, with heavy rainfall expected, potentially reaching up to 3 inches on Thursday, March 28, 2024. With the ground still saturated from last weekend's rains, the risk of flooding is heightened, especially in basements, areas with inadequate drainage, and low-lying regions.

Residents are recommended to stay mindful of the existence of large puddles, potholes, and areas of roads affected by flooding. Furthermore, patchy fog is expected, so residents are advised to drive cautiously by reducing speed and increasing following distances.

The Town of Scituate advises residents to take these precautions:

  •  Avoid driving through flooded areas to prevent potential vehicle damage and risks to nearby properties from vehicle wakes.
  • Adhere to safety measures such as respecting sawhorses placed in specific areas.
  • Ensure sump pumps are functioning properly and downspouts are clear of any blockages.
  • Promptly reported any blocked catch basins to the Department of Public Works during business hours or to the Scituate Police after hours.

In case of emergencies, dial 911 or 781-545-1212 for non-emergencies. Power outages should be reported to National Grid at 1-800-465-1212 or to Eversource (Humarock) at 1-800-688-6160.
