DPW WATER DIVISION UPDATE

The Department of Public Works would again like to thank the residents for their cooperation with the ongoing emergency water ban.  As noted previously, on Wednesday, May 26th, the Town of Scituate water demand was 2.657 million gallons per day (mgd). That usage was equal to the highest day pumped in the last 4 years and is generally only seen around the Fourth of July Holiday.  This past long holiday weekend average demand (after water ban and with a rainy weekend) was 1.683 mgd.  This is an average savings of almost 1,000,000 gallons of water per day.  Almost all this savings can be attributed to the fact that there was no outside use of water and shows what happens if residents work diligently to conserve water.

The inspection on the pump for Well 19 revealed that it needs a new pump shaft and bearings.  This work is currently being done and we anticipate having the well back online by Friday.  Please continue to adhere to the water ban until further notice and we thank you for your continued cooperation.
