Coastal Storm Advisory #12

Good morning,

The recovery efforts continue by emergency management, public safety and our utility companies. The goal was to have all power restored by now but apparently we had some setbacks with the gusty winds last night. We know some residents had power restored last night and only a couple hours later lost power. This was confirmed in the West End. We empathize with your frustration but ask for continued patience, utility crewscontinue working tirelessly on re-energizing the few homes left without power.

Refer to National Grid’s web site, https://outagemap.ma.nationalgridus.com to get an estimated time of restoration for your location. In addition to power restoration work, the Scituate DPW will have crews working today to clear the streets and sidewalks of debris to make them safe for our trick or treaters tonight and ready for school tomorrow. The transfer station will be open today with normal operating hours.

Fortunately, we have a nice day ahead of us with temperatures forecast to be in the mid 60’s.

As you get out today please be cautious when walking or driving on the wet leaves they can create a very slippery surface andkeep clear of all wires especially as power continues to get restored.

If you do not get power back when your neighbors do call National Grid at 800-465-1212 or Eversource at 800-286-2000 for Humarock residents. It would be wise to have your electrician check your electrical system, especially if you had tree and wire damage on your property. If you experience any electrical odors or arcing immediately call 911 for the fire department.

Again, for those who have generators please make sure you stage them away from doors, windows, or attached garages. To further protect your family, make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are in working order. Many residents are having issues with their detectors chirping due to the lack of power and low batteries. If you have back up batteries please replace them, if unsure please call the fire department. All homes should check and replace their batteries every year, this is a good time to do this during fire prevention month. Common CO symptoms are feeling sluggish with early flu like symptoms. If you experience these symptoms call 911 immediately and go outside for fresh air. If you have any questions or need additional services please call the public safety dispatch at 781-545-1212 or 781-545-5515.

The setback from last nights weather is unfortunate, we appreciate your continued patience to allow public safety and the utility companies to make sure we all have power and can get back to normal.

Happy Halloween. Stay well & be safe!
