Coastal Storm Advisory #11

Good evening,
The recovery efforts continue by emergency management, public safety and our utility companies. Progress continues on the power restoration. As of 6pm less than 100 homes of Scituate proper remains without power. Utility crews will continue working on re-energizing the balance of individual residences this evening.

Refer to National Grid’s web site, https://outagemap.ma.nationalgridus.com to get an estimated time of restoration for your location. In addition to power restoration work, the Scituate DPW will have crews working tomorrow to clear the streets and sidewalks of debris to make them safe for Halloween on Sunday and school on Monday. The transfer station will be open Sunday with normal operating hours.

The heavy rain and increased winds have begun and will maintain their impact through midnight then lighten up and end by early morning. We anticipate easterly wind gusts in the 40’s which could cause further limb damage that may have been weakened from this week’s storm. Please be cautious when walking or driving on the wet leaves they can create a very slippery surface and keep clear of all wires especially as power continues to get restored.

If you do not get power back when your neighbors do call National Grid at 800-465-1212 or Eversource at 800-286-2000 for Humarock residents. It would be wise to have your electrician check your electrical system, especially if you had tree and wire damage on your property. If you experience any electrical odors or arcing immediately call 911 for the fire department.

Again, for those who have generators please make sure you stage them away from doors, windows, or attached garages. To further protect your family, make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are in working order. Many residents are having issues with their detectors chirping due to the lack of power and low batteries. If you have back up batteries please replace them, if unsure please call the fire department. All homes should check and replace their batteries every year, this is a good time to do this during fire prevention month. Common CO symptoms are feeling sluggish with early flu like symptoms. If you experience these symptoms call 911 immediately and go outside for fresh air. If you have any questions or need additional services please call the public safety dispatch at 781-545-1212 or 781-545-5515.

When we wake tomorrow we hope to see some sunshine  and for all power to be restored. It’s supposed to be a beautiful Sunday for us, especially for our “trick or treaters”. Enjoy the day, we all deserve it after this week. Again, we really appreciate your patience during this long-duration storm and recovery.
Stay well & be safe!
