Coastal Storm Advisory #10

Good morning,
The recovery efforts continue by emergency management, public safety and our utility companies. Progress continues on the power restoration. As of 8am 16% of Scituate proper remains without power. Utility crews will continue working on re-energizing neighborhoods and small side streets.

Refer to National Grid’s web site, https://outagemap.ma.nationalgridus.com to get an estimated time of restoration for your location. Eversource has informed us that power has been restored to Humarock. In addition to power restoration work, the Scituate DPW will have crews working throughout the weekend to clear the streets and sidewalks of debris in advance of Halloween on Sunday and school on Monday.

Today’s rain and wind will continue throughout the day into Sunday morning with the strongest impacts occurring between 6pm to midnight. We are forecast to receive easterly wind gusts in the 40’s which could cause further limb damage that may have been weakened from this week’s storm. Please be cautious when walking or driving on the wet leaves they can create a very slippery surface. Please keep clear of all wires especially as power continues to get restored.

If you do not get power back when your neighbors do call National Grid at 800-465-1212 or Eversource at 800-286-2000 for Humarock residents. It would be wise to have your electrician check your electrical system, especially if you had tree and wire damage on your property. If you experience any electrical odors or arcing immediately call 911 for the fire department.

The Scituate Public Library will be open to all resident’s today who want to go in and charge their devices and get warm. Residents who need additional assistance should contact the Public Safety Dispatch Center and they will direct you or assist those in need. The Transfer Station will be open this weekend normal operating hours.

Again, for those who have generators please make sure you stage them away from doors, windows, or attached garages. To further protect your family, make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are in working order. Many residents are having issues with their detectors chirping due to the lack of power and low batteries. If you have back up batteries please replace them, if unsure please call the fire department. Common CO symptoms are feeling sluggish with early flu like symptoms. If you experience these symptoms call 911 immediately and go outside for fresh air.

We appreciate your patience during this long-duration storm and recovery. If you have any questions or need additional services please call the public safety dispatch at 781-545-1212 or 781-545-5515.
Stay well & be safe!
