Coastal Storm Update December 4, 2020

Tis' the season! We are forecast to be impacted by a coastal storm with heavy rain, high winds, and the potential for minor coastal flooding. Rain is expected to start early Saturday morning with the heaviest precipitation anticipated between 7am to 7pm. Depending on the exact track of the storm we may experience some snow when the winds turn from the northwest late afternoon. We could receive 1’ to 2’ of rain so please clear any storm drains of leaves in your neighborhood.

Winds will intensify by late morning initially from the northeast then turning northwest by dusk. The winds are expected to be steady 25-30 mph with gust to 55 mph diminishing to 15-20mph after midnight. The long duration strong winds may result in some scattered power outages. If you have a generator it may be a good idea to make sure it runs properly and please make sure the exhaust is directed away from your home to reduce any potential for carbon monoxide.

We anticipate some splash over and potential minor coastal flooding in our low lying coastal areas as the strong northeast winds coincide with the moderate high tide (10’) just after 2pm. With the winds turning northwest we don’t anticipate any flood issues with the evening high tide. Colder temperatures with brisk northwest winds will follow this storm likely through Monday afternoon.  If you have any reason to leave your home Saturday, earlier would be safer.

Be well & Stay Safe!
