Book Club Resources

Stack of books in the libraryHow can I get multiple copies of a title for my book group?

We always recommend that you check the Library's catalog to see how many copies are available to check out. If you're choosing a new or popular title, your members may not be able to request and receive the book in time to read it due to waiting lists. Once you've checked the catalog, each member should place their own hold for pick up at the Library. We are unable to request multiple copies for book groups.

The Scituate Town Library added a few book club kits to its circulating collection in March 2022. Each kit comes with 6-8 titles, author information, discussion questions, and read-alike suggestions. One person from the book club can check out the kit and is then responsible for returning the kits to the Library with all titles back in the bag. Depending on the popularity of these kits, we may add more in the future! Let us know your thoughts.

Another alternative is to search the catalog for book club kits! Some libraries will send an entire kit in the delivery system for a single point-person to check out. Once the kit is checked out, it's up to the point-person to make sure that the books are placed back in the container and returned all at once to the Scituate Town Library. To find book club kits, use the search term "book club kits" and scroll through the 70+ kits in the Old Colony Library Network. Some libraries will not send the kit in the delivery system, but you may be able to visit that library and check out the kit with your card.
