Scituate Police and Students Partner Up!

SPD & SHS

Scituate Police and Students Working Together

Over the past few weeks, several Scituate Police Officers have led students from the Scituate High School in an outdoor fitness program that has been held on Monday and Wednesday mornings. The classes have been held outdoors on the new SHS football field and have been attended by 30-40 students each session.

SHS Athletic Director, Pete Umbrianna, pitched the idea several weeks ago to SPD in the hopes that students could be involved with the Police in a positive setting. One of our Officers, Tobey Britton, gathered up some other volunteers from the Police Department and went to work. Officer Britton is a certified fitness instructor. Both he and Officer Kevin Talbot are the designated Health and Wellness coordinators for SPD. They brought along Detective Mike Prouty and Officers Drew Kitchen, Lindsay Bonanno, Alyssa Rehm, Michael Oar, and Jeff Radding.

Each session students were seperated into stations where they worked on different cardiovascular excercises, body weight drills , and relay races. Workouts lasted for approximately 90 minutes.

Our Officers had an awesome experience and hope to continue to work with students in the future. Thank you to The Scituate High School for the great partnership!
