Nero's Law Training

Nero's Law Training

Recently, the Scituate Fire Department hosted the first of two training sessions focusing on “Nero’s Law”.

Nero’s Law allows EMS personnel to triage, treat and transport working dogs injured in the line of duty to veterinary hospitals for definitive care.

The bill was named after Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon’s K9 partner Nero, who was injured in the line of duty in a shooting that took the life of Sgt. Gannon. The law was introduced thanks to State Rep. Steven Xiarhos (R-Barnstable), Sen. Mark Montigny (D-New Bedford) and Sgt. Gannon’s mother, Denise Gannon.

The training was conducted by SFD and assisted by Dr. Michelle Brown DVM and Scituate Police Sgt. Brian McLaughlin along with his K9 partner, Brek.
