Reading Lists for Inclusivity, Empathy and Action

Staff Curated Lists

Below are lists of titles that you could use to open discussions with your kids about race and racism, social justice issues, inclusivity, building empathy, and more.  This list of lists is a work-in-progress and we will be adding additional lists on an ongoing basis!

Some of these reading lists are intended to be "windows and mirrors and sliding doors" for kids and families. That is to say, every child should see themselves reflected in a book and every child should be able to learn something about a person who is not the same as themselves. The phrase "windows, mirrors, and sliding doors" is the brainchild of Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop. You can hear her discussing the importance of this concept in this video
