Introducing…

Thoreau’s Waye

A Quiet Place of Reflection, Recreation & Celebration of the Natural World

This is a rendering of the park space proposed for behind the Library, set back under the existing trees. This view approximates that to be seen from our Library’s Porch.

Features of this community space include the sitting wall, reading benches, a stone art feature, the Library’s Wi-Fi service - all comfortably wheelchair accessible.  This portion of the project has been approved by the Community Preservation Committee (CPC). It has also received the support of the Library Trustees, the  Advisory Committee and the Selectboard. The project was funded by Town Meeting voters as a CPC Project in April of 2021 at Annual Town Meeting and is currently out for public bid. The library hopes that this space will be open and accessible by spring of 2023.

The green space behind the sitting wall will highlight a pollinator garden with native plants, as well as educational signage elaborating the civic life of trees, native plants and the pollinators that support & enrich our community.  This portion of the project, as well as Thoreau’s Waye’s ongoing maintenance and future programing will be funded through the Scituate Library Foundation by the Goulding Family & Friends in memory of their son, Michael.
