WORKSHOP JANUARY 22 ON PROPOSED 40R ZONING

Over the past ten months, the Economic Development Commission has been working with Matt Smith, Senior Regional Planner of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council to develop recommendations to strengthen Scituate’s local economy and create additional tax revenue in ways that are consistent with the Town’s character.  MAPC’s primary recommendation was the adoption of zoning consistent with the State’s 40R Smartgrowth program in the Greenbush/Driftway area.  This zoning would allow new housing to be created at densities of 25 units per acre by right with a site plan review process, rather than through a discretionary special permit.  The Planning Board invites you to attend a discussion on 40R with William Reyelt, Principal Planner, Smart Growth Programs, Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), and Matt Smith at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 22 in the Selectmen’s Hearing Room.  A draft bylaw and map are available here.  Significant incentive payments would be available to the Town upon adoption and for each residential unit created.
