WIND ADVISORY 2/28/2024 2PM

According to the National Weather Service, the Town of Scituate should anticipate two rounds of powerful winds, potentially resulting in scattered power outages and downed limbs or trees starting Wednesday into Thursday morning.

The initial wind surge will persist today, extending into early this evening, bringing strong to damaging south winds. Subsequently, the following wind surge on Wednesday night through Thursday morning will unleash forceful west-to-northwest winds. Wind speeds are forecasted to range between 30-45 mph until Thursday evening.

Wednesday night's rain and strong winds may pose travel hazards. As temperatures plummet into the 20s and 30s, rain may briefly transition to snow, with minor accumulations expected, generally under an inch. With subfreezing temperatures and residual moisture, Thursday morning could experience slippery conditions. Please exercise additional caution while traveling on the roads, especially due to the potential presence of black ice. While the Town of Scituate DPW has been actively treating our roadways, we strongly recommend reducing your driving speed and increasing your following distance.

In case of emergencies, dial 911. Report downed wires by calling 781-545-1212. For power outages, contact National Grid at 1-800-465-1212 or Eversource (Humarock) at 1-800-688-6160.
