Weekend Storm Threat-Update 2

Good afternoon,

We continue to monitor a significant wind and rain storm that will move across our area beginning this evening and continuing into tomorrow (Monday) morning. The wind and rain will be heaviest during the overnight hours continuing through the Monday morning commute hours.

Wind gusts are currently forecasted to 50 mph with gusts of 55-60 mph possible. With the forecast calling for 2” of rain or more, coupled with high winds, it is possible that we will see scattered power outages throughout Scituate, Both National Grid and Eversource are ramping up operations and preparing for a level 4 storm event. Under this scenario, restoration could take from 24-48 hours from the end of the storm. Fortunately, the wind direction and timing of the high tide should be favorable and not contribute to any significant coastal flooding in our area.

Residents should secure any holiday decorations in anticipation of the high winds.

Storm drains should be cleared of any leaves to allow drainage of the heavy rainfall expected. Make sure that your generators are gassed up and operational. If you are operating a portable generator, please remember to ensure that it is away from your home and properly ventilated.

Please keep an eye on the forecast as we know small changes in the storm track can cause a major change in the projected impacts.
