The Water Resources Commission’s Annual Rain Barrel Sale

Ready to save money and conserve water?

When it comes to preserving our natural resources, every step counts. You can take several steps towards conversation by collecting rainwater to use in your yard. Keep reading to learn more about rain barrel benefits and other ways to save on your water bill. Then, join us on Saturday, April 6 to pick up your new water barrel(s). In the last three years, Scituate residents have purchased nearly 500 rain barrels through this program.

Why use rain barrels?

During the summer months, our water supply is strained by excessive heat, lower precipitation levels and increased water demand from visitors. Outdoor watering is only allowed before 9am and after 5pm from May 1 through September 30. Coincidentally, these five months are also prime growing time for plants, vegetables, shrubs and trees. Why not capture water when it rains (for free!), then use it at your convenience to water your yard? Your plants will welcome the drink during the warmer weather. Simply hook up an irrigation hose to the spigot on your water barrel, let the barrel empty and your plants will be watered slowly and deeply. You can also connect rain barrels together to increase your capacity.
