SCITUATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

Storm Update 1: 1/12/24 12 PM

The upcoming storm predicted for Friday evening into Saturday afternoon is expected to bring:

  • Strong wind gusts in excess of 55 mph from Friday night until Saturday afternoon, posing a risk of downed power lines and potential power outages. The Town of Scituate urges residents to avoid traveling on roads starting Friday night, considering the presence of live power lines and the potential for falling trees.
  • Heavy rain, starting Friday night through Saturday afternoon, ranging from 1.5 to 2 inches.
  • The possibility of splashover / localized coastal flooding on Saturday afternoon is dependent on wind and tide conditions. Heavy rain could lead to ponding issues on the roadways. Please use caution when driving through standing water.
  • The Scituate Police Department will deploy additional officers on the roads to handle tide-related closures. High-water trucks will be in operation to access and address any flooded areas.

To prepare for the impending storm:

  • Please refrain from visiting Scituate beaches on Saturday.
  • Ensure you have gas for your generator and confirm that the generator is in proper working condition. Operate generators outdoors and away from living spaces.
  • Due to heavy rains, residents should inspect their sump pumps, check downspouts, and ensure that catch basins in the area are not blocked.
  • Prioritize charging your devices to ensure they are powered and ready for use when needed.
  • Please avoid approaching fallen power lines and downed trees.

For any emergencies, please call 911 or 781-545-1212 for non-emergencies. Please contact National Grid at 1-800-465-1212 to report an outage.
