High Wind Warning

SCITUATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

Good morning,

We are under a High Wind Warning as a cold-front is forecast to transit through our area Friday morning likely impacting the morning commute. Ahead of this front the winds will be gusty through this afternoon then strengthening overnight with the strongest winds anticipated after 11pm to mid-morning.

Warm temperatures will accompany the steady south/southwest winds 25-35mph with gusts potentially exceeding 65mph. We are forecast to get approximately a half an inch of rain overnight diminishing with the winds Friday morning. The winds will remain brisk from the northwest Friday as temperatures drop into the 20’s by evening.

If the wind gusts do exceed 55mph, we expect to experience some tree and limb damage which will likely cause isolated power outages. If the gusts do get into the mid to high 60’s, the power issues could be more widespread. Please be aware of downed power lines. If you witness downed power lines stay clear and dial 911 for the fire department and report any power/wire issues to National Grid at 800-465-1212 or Eversource for Humarock residents at 800-286-2000.

We may experience some localized street flooding with the heavy rain and rapid snow melt. Please clear your drains in your neighborhood this afternoon to minimize this potential.

If you need your generator, please make sure the exhaust is facing away from any windows or doors and never set them up in your basement. It would be safer if you could delay your Friday morning commute to allow time for the peak winds to weaken and allow our DPW workers to clear any remaining debris on our roads and sidewalks.

Stay safe and enjoy your weekend!
