Tales of Two Towns: Scituate and Marshfield During the American Revolution

The second volume of Scituate’s Histories tells the story of Scituate and Marshfield during the American Revolution. It is not an attempt to create a new interpretation of the American Revolution, but rather to provide readers with the facts of how, 250 years ago, the two towns decided to respond to events of this important historical period and how their responses were both similar and different. There are certain citizens of both towns whose actions played an important role in shaping the ways the towns responded to, and participated in, this struggle to create a new nation. These citizens are spotlighted with brief portraits of the actions that made them influential in shaping how the two towns reacted to developments during the Revolutionary War period. Of special note are the extraordinary numbers of citizens who performed military service during the war and the sacrifices they and their families made in support of the Patriot cause, including for some the ultimate sacrifice of their lives.
