Coastal Storm Advisory

As two storms combine this afternoon we are forecast to be impacted by a strong nor’easter with significant impacts starting later today lasting into Wednesday evening. The storm will bring heavy rain, high winds, and the potential for power outages and minor coastal flooding. The forecast is for 2” to 4” of rain in our area.

The major impacts from this storm will be the significant long duration (NE) northeast winds and the potential for power outages. We are fortunate this is a rain event (not snow) that will coincide with nominal high tides. The heaviest rain and moderate winds are anticipated to begin later this afternoon with the most significant impacts coming this evening and overnight. The heavy rain is expected diminishing by noon Wednesday but the strong winds will persist into late evening. Please clear your street drains to help prevent street flooding.

The NE winds are forecast to be steady 35-45mph with gusts potentially exceeding 70mph. The peak winds are expected to occur overnight, approximately 8pm to 8am. The high winds could create scattered to moderate power outages overnight. Tree and limb damage are more prevalent when wind gusts exceed 55mph with the majority of the leaves still on the trees.

We anticipate significant splash over that will bring the potential for minor coastal flooding during the Wednesday high tides at our 4:24am (8.2’) and 4:28pm (9.1’) high tides. It would be wise to move your vehicles to higher ground if in the flood zone and check your sump pumps.

Please check your generators and stage them away from any doors or windows. Remove or secure outside furniture and loose objects that could cause damage to your home.

Please be prepared and stay safe!
