Board and Committee Opening Zoning Board of Appeals

The Board of Selectmen is seeking applicants for one alternate position opening on the Zoning Board of Appeals for a three year term.  The Zoning Board of Appeals reviews applications and writes decisions for variances and special permits for matters within their purview under the Town of Scituate Zoning Bylaws. The Zoning Board meets monthly or as needed.  In addition, the Board may rule on appeals of the Building Inspector’s written decisions or building permits. The Zoning Board interprets and applies the Zoning By-laws and related Massachusetts statutes to each application in a fair and impartial manner and conduct hearings and public meetings in a timely and professional manner. The Board decides each application in accordance with the applicable regulatory law, consistent with relevant appellate decisions. The Board complies with all rules and regulations that govern hearings and seek to create solid, thoughtful decisions that will be upheld in the event of an appeal. The Board seeks to hold hearings that allow each citizen who appears before them, whether as an applicant or a person who opposes a particular application, to recognize that their concerns have been heard, that they have been treated with respect, and that the board applied the law in a fair and impartial manner.
