Town Wide Mosquito Spraying

The Town of Scituate has just been informed by the Massachusetts State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board that due to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s finding of positive mosquito pools of EEE in Scituate and surrounding towns, they will be conducting mosquito adulticiding spray between the hours of 2:00am and 5:00am, early tomorrow morning, August 30, 2019, weather permitting. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health Pesticide applications are made via an ultra-low volume sprayer that is on the back of a pickup truck. In addition to the town wide spraying, residents who have already set up an individual request will still be sprayed at a later date. Any additional information can be found on the Plymouth County Mosquito Control Project at Plymouthmosquito.org.

Residents should take precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites by staying indoors as much as possible from dusk to dawn during peak mosquito hours, applying insect repellent when outdoors, draining standing water where mosquitos breed, and repairing screens and doors.

August and September are the peak months for mosquito borne illnesses. The risk will decrease the first hard frost. Residents that would like to request spraying at their homes can call Plymouth County Mosquito Control at 781-585-5450.
