Old Oaken Buckets: Scituate and its Water Supply

A history of Scituate’s water supply from its colonial days of individual wells and old oaken buckets, through the creation of a privately owned water supply system in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and, from 1931 to the present, a publicly-owned system. It is often the story of laying water pipes and searching for ground water sources, and the expansion and modernization of that system to meet the demands of a rapidly growing suburban Massachusetts town, along with the many problems encountered in attempting to meet those demands.
