Sucy-en-Brie

May 2019

In May 2019, a group of 15 adults from Scituate visited Sucy-en-Brie. They were warmly welcomed officially by the town and end then by their host families. During their stay, the American guests explored Paris, Sucy, and the Bourgogne region. For some, this was their first visit to France. Two favorite outings in Sucy were the castle, Vaux-le-Vicomte (that included dinner and fireworks), and the Saturday outdoor market. In Paris, there were so many favorites such as Ile-de-la-Cité with Notre Dame being renovated since the fire, the Tour Eiffel, the Boulevard Saint Michel, l'Opéra, the Seine, of course, and Montmartre. The pièce de résistance, however was the immersive exhibition, Imagine Van Gogh. Thanks to a recently developped virtual projection technology, the Americans became a part of the spectacular, incomparable universe of Van Gogh's paintings. Towards the end of their séjour, the group spent three days in Burgundy, touring the region, visiting vineyards, tasting wine, making a wine barrel, and then participating in a cooking class that culminated in the dinner they had prepared--un dîner superbe! This unforgettable trip to France culminated with a delightful dinner party hosted by a Scituate friend and Sucy councilor. The Amrican travelers went home with new friends and unforgettable memories of a dream vacation. On the bus returning to Scituate, the group enthusiastically spoke of their own personal experiences and repeatedly expressed gratitude for the opportunity the Sister City Committee had provided as well as calling it the "trip of a lifetime." Our French hosts were scheduled to visit Scituate in May 2020.  Unfortunately the Carona Virus interferred with that plan. The Sucyciens  have kept in touch with their American friends and hope to realize this visit in April 2021.
