Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC)

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) is the regional planning agency serving the 101 cities and towns of Metropolitan Boston including Scituate. MAPC’s mission is to promote smart growth and regional collaboration. The regional plan, MetroFuture, guides our work as we engage the public in responsible stewardship of our region’s future.

MAPC provides information and assistance to municipalities in the region in areas such as sound municipal management, sustainable land use, protection of natural resources, efficient and affordable transportation, a diverse housing stock, public safety, economic development, clean energy, and healthy communities. They have assisted Scituate with several planning initiatives over the years, most recently the Economic Development Plan and Market Analysis of 2014, and the Scituate Harbor Parking Study in 2015. Also, MAPC has detailed statistical information about the Metro Boston Region that can be helpful for prospective businesses and investors considering Scituate.
