Scituate Storm Advisory #7, January 28 – 4:15 p.m.

Governor Baker, Lieutenant Governor Polito, and Secretary of EOEA Beaton, visited Scituate today and received a briefing from town officials and toured impacted coastal areas. They were sensitive to our needs and genuinely concerned. Additional equipment was requested to clear streets so electricity could be restored swiftly.

The Shelter at Scituate High School ceased operation at 2:00 p.m.

All Town Offices and the Library will be open Thursday, January 28.

Scituate Public Schools will have a two-hour delay.  As an additional precaution, extra public safety personnel will be on hand in the morning to insure road and sidewalk safety for school children.

Much progress was made today on identifying electrical problems in individual homes. As of 4:15 p.m. Lighthouse Road and Rebecca Road have power. Surfside Road power is imminent. We are hopeful Oceanside Drive may be restored this evening.  Eighteen (18) homes could not have power restored due to damage.  This work will continue for the next several days. The Commonwealth has also provided building inspectors to work with the Building Commissioner and National Guard is on hand as well.

Please note that clean-up will take weeks. The volume of material on coastal roads is greater than in many, many years. We understand residents are frustrated and we are striving to return to normalcy as soon as possible, but it is going to take weeks.

This is the last Advisory for today.
